Mirra's Birthday Party

We had a beautiful day with lots of friends and family. We had a tea party outside with hats and lots of food.

Mirra in her pretty hat and new dress from Aunt Diane and Uncle Mark.

Andy making his famous smoked pork lion. Not typical tea party fare, but it was SOOO good! We had crustless PB sandwiches for the kids.

Drew helping me put the finishing touches on Mirra's birthday cake. The whole process started out a bit rocky when Mirra decided to taste test the first cake I had cooling on the counter. We walked into the kitchen to see cake with little handfuls taken out of the side.

Drew tried on a couple of different hats. When he took the top hat he said "abracadabra".

Jordan kept his hat on for two seconds and then decided he wasn't a fan.

"I take you"

What Mirra says when she wants you to pick her up.

She was hilarious today as she slid down the little slide. When she reached the bottom she said "Help, Dada. Save me. Save me!"

Drew's Field Day

Drew's school class had a field day on Wednesday. All the kids played outside and the preschool graduates were given certificates.

Climbing with his friends.

Getting his certificate from Mrs. Hall, the best teacher ever.

The kids played a game of Duck, Duck, Goose. Mirra tried to play at times. Drew was dying to be 'goosed'.

He waited and waited and then...

..as he lands back at his spot he squeals like braking tires.

The Tales We Tell

The life of a fish is not a long one. We have lost many in the five months Drew's tank has been up and running. Fortunately, Drew seems to accept it when we tell him that a fish has gone to heaven. However, we started feeling bad telling him this every two weeks or so. So we started replacing every other one.

A couple of months ago we added Molly, the algae-eating plecostamus, to Drew's tank. After a few weeks, Molly departed our company. Quite some time had passed before Drew started asking where she was. I told him she was hiding in the tank. Molly had been very dark in color and often did camouflage herself against the black filter. I kept telling him this for a week before I managed to get a replacement.

Then yesterday, Mr. Pettipaw, went belly up. Drew saw him upside-down and said "Mr. Pettipaw wants to swim." After Mr. Pettipaw had been flushed, Drew asked where he was. We told him that his fish had gone on vacation to Grammy's house for the night. I replaced the fancy-tailed goldfish today, though I know that Drew can tell the difference he still seems content with his little fish family.

The Latest

Recently Mirra is talking more and more. I say that all the time, I know, but now she can hold a conversation with us. It's just amazing to see. She is even using plural and possessive forms of words. Yesterday she said "A helmet, Dada. See? I fix it" and "crescent moon".

With all the recent rain we have discovered that she is afraid of thunderstorms. We think she also inherited her brother's seasonal allergies. Add that to two molars on the move and you have a whiner on your hands.

We are gearing up for her second birthday party next weekend. It is a tea party theme and I am having so much fun planning this one! Even Drew is getting excited about it. He tells everyone that we are having a tea party for Mirra's birthday and she will be 2.

Mirra gets into the action at Drew's gym by jumping into the foam pit. What fun!

Mirra was throwing a fit and planted herself at her dad's feet in an attempt to get attention.

Drew and Andy have been in racing mode this week. Watching, not driving right now. Drew got spooked a few weeks ago when he hit the wall at the track. He's fine but just not ready to get back behind the wheel. That was also about the time that he had strep throat so that may have something to do with it also. Fortuanely this week has been packed full of racing-related things to watch. The boys went to a sprint car race Thursday and today they toured the race car garages around here.

Drew with Shane Cottle's full midget racecar. If that name is familiar, he met Shane Cottle at the Chili Bowl in January.

Drew had his last day of gym on Thursday and we have gone to Kindergarten orientation. We are ready to enjoy a fun-filled (hopefully) summer before I lose my baby all day to school. Sniff.
