Social Studies

Drew's social studies lesson was on state and local government.  After we completed it we headed out to dinner.  On the way home Drew made a snarky comment about how he was the government and I couldn't tell him what to do.

I told him I was the government in our house and I can tell him what to do.  He argued that his dad was government too.  I said "Dad is in charge of the treasury."  At which point Andy informed him "Mom is right and she is the executive and legislative branch."

Drew paused for a moment and said "I'm government too and we all tell Mirra what to do."

Disney!!!

We surprised the kids with a weekend at Magic Kingdom.  It was SO hard to keep secret, especially the last week as I was covertly packing their stuff and trying to quiz Drew on where his autograph book was.

We flew all day Saturday and met Aunt Diane and Uncle Mark in Orlando.  We all spent Sunday at the park together.  It was busy but manageable.  Mirra made friends in every line we were in.  We zipped through the ride lines and the kids were patient and excited while waiting for characters.  Our kids LOVE the characters!  We manged to meet 18 in two days: Marie from Aristocats, Pluto, Merida, Buzz Lightyear, Tinkerbell and Periwinkle, Stitch, Rapunzel, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Mickey Mouse, Tigger and Pooh, Ariel, Goofy, Donald Duck, Daisy Duck and Minnie Mouse... Whew!  We rode several rides as well.  Drew's favorite was the Buzz Lightyear and Mirra's seemed to be Goofy's roller coaster.  We all went on Space Mountain, which was a parenting fail.  I don't remember it being quite so dark and they put Mirra in the front car by herself.  I spent the ride hunched over, holding her hands and telling her it would be all right.  She immediately told me she didn't like it and made me promise never to make her ride it again.  I agreed.  She later told me she wanted to do it again and the only reason she didn't like it was because while I reached over her seat I was pulling her hair.  We didn't risk it again.

With all the characters and rides it surprised me a bit to learn that Mirra's favorite part was meeting PUSH the magical trashcan.  Monday morning we immediately saw Mickey and sought out some pixie dust.  Mirra opted not to have her sprinkled on her head but requested some in a bag and she then distributed it to others throughout the day.  We then stalked PUSH for over 40 minutes before we found him.  I admit he was pretty cool. He asked Drew for some of his popcorn and cracked the kids up when he burped.

Overall it was a great trip!  The kids were good.  We saw and experienced a lot.  And we made some awesome family memories!
